EXPEDITION 100: MISSION TO MARS

Styleframe Design

Three sets of style directions are created for NASA TV as an assignment for the School of Motion Design Bootcamp. The task is to make the title sequence frames feel dangerous, awe-inspiring and cinematic. With the drafted footages provided by the clients, additional GFX and elements are added to design 3 different styleframes for the client.

The first set is inverted colour style. This is inspired by analog film process. Before the positive image is developed, the negatives give the first glimpse of the results. This preserve the mystery of the apace adventure.

The second piece is inspired by the movie, ‘Mad Max’. With the mono tone of orange colour, the theme of ‘Mars’ is greatly enhanced. With the shadows and lighting effects, the sense is more cinematic.

The third one is composed with symmetry. This creates more space and a strong point of attraction in each scene. It also provides more flexibility to direct the focus from the audience.

Three directions consists of the same images but developed in different approach in order to achieve the sense of danger in discovering the unknown.
