HKU JC WISE Documentary - The Missing Label
This is the first episode of JC-WISE's documentary series "Befriend Our Waters" — The Missing Label (找不到的標籤).
This episode will explore the extent of the far-reaching impacts of the clothing industry on global water resources. Could we find an effective method to help people understand the impacts of their consumption behaviour on water resources? Perhaps the clothing industry could develop and add an internationally recognised label on their products to provide key information on the amount of water used in the production processes of these products? Consumers should find such information useful because it will help them make informed choices in considering what clothing to buy.
In collaboration with the research team at HKU, an educational and entertaining documentary has successfully drew the attention of the public society. The challenge of this project was the government regulation during the pandemic. We kept the size of production small and reply more on the post-production side.
Another challenge was the intense competition of social media content on Youtube. Since our target audience is general public in Hong Kong, we understood water usage in garment is not a familiar topic. From content to illustration, we keep things simple and easy to digest. 5-min short documentary series were the great prelude in raising public’s interest in understanding waters.
